This mews studio with courtyard in South Kensington/London had to be designed for the needs of an seismology engineer/lecturer in his late 30s. A comfortable uncluttered atmosphere has been desired and minimalistic design and existing antique souvenir furniture had to be combined.

However, the overall challenge has been to integrate in this small space of 37 m² all functional elements while still offering a spacious feeling.

Built-in furniture up to the ceiling and a well-designed lighting scheme are crucial for small spaces. The existing courtyard is a great asset for this studio and the huge window front towards the courtyard is extending the interior space. Using naturals materials as douglas fir planks for flooring and “béton-ciré” as a highlighting wall covering is offering an interesting contrast to the overall white surroundings.
